400th
anniversary of death of Rudolph
II
Rudolph II ?
Holy Roman Emperor, King of Bohemia, Hungary and
Croatia.
During the
reign of Rudolph II of the Habsburg House (18 July 1552) Prague
became a significant political, cultural and artistic centre of
Europe. He was undoubtedly one of the most prominent European
rulers, his reign and personality have, however, been covered by
the veil of secrecy, ambiguities and legends until the present day.
Rudolph II, a broad-minded patron of sciences and art as well as
alchemy and the occult, seeker of universal truths about life and
the world, died on 20 January 1612.
